Our “Charity Appreciation Lunch”

For current members only…

in appreciation of all of the knitting and crocheting done for our charity projects.

Enjoy a catered lunch (of soup, bagels, salad & dessert) at Panera, on Friday, 2/9, 1-3 pm – please be on time. I’ll be setting up from  12:30 – 1:00.

Bring your knitting WIP’s too.

Meet-up for Friday, Jan. 26

Ladies, we will meet-up this Friday, 1/26 – from 1-3 p.m. at Panera.

Note: Susan W. will be collecting all preemie hats & blankies. We’re also making Red Valentine’s Day hats for “Warm Hearts & Hats”  newborn babies at White Plains Hospital. Lois is collecting those over the next couple of weeks.

Ladies, our meet-up will be held at the ArtsWestchester this Friday, 1/19 at 12:30 – please arrive on time.

Kim will give us a tour of their current “Give us the Vote” exhibition.

We’ll have lunch then Knit/Crochet. For those working on the Pink Pussyhats, bring them in!

We’re having Pizza for lunch. Cost is $5 per person.

“Pink Pussyhat” Pattern & videos

Here is the Knit pattern Cheryl shared for the hats.  As well, below are very good  ‘how to’ youtube videos which show how to do the 3 needle bind-off referenced on the pattern.

Make in any shade of Pink.

 

Pussy Hat Pattern

Materials: #4 worsted weight yarn

Size 7 circular needles

Size 7 straight needle

Using circular needles cast on 100 stitches, place marker and join in round, taking care to not twist stitches.

K2 P2 ribbing for 2 -3“. Continue in Stockinette Stitch until piece measures 8-9”.

Finish with a three needle bind off. Place 50 stitches on each of two needles. Bind off through stitches on both needles at same time using third needle.

Althernative to ribbing. Cast on 100 stitches as above. Knit in garter stitch for 2” (Knit one row, purl one row). Then continue in stockinette stitch (knit every row) until piece measures 8”. Finish with three needle bind off

Meet-up for January 5, 2018

If we don’t get the snow storm, as predicted, we will meet at Panera on 1/5, from 1-3 p.m.

Happy New Year ladies….guess what!!!??? We have really cool opportunity to give back to our community.  Join us in knitting/crocheting for the Arts Westchester – thanks to Cheryl! During a recent gallery exhibition she was conversing with an employee who admired her knit wear … the rest is history!

We’re invited to an “Evening of Knitting Pink Hats” at the Arts Westchester. We’ll have a large table to knit at on the main floor of the gallery.

They will distribute some of the Pink hats and sell some, in their gift shop.

Save-the-Date: Wednesday, January 24th from 5-7 p.m.

Gather Pink acrylic worsted weight yarn, all shades of Pink, and join us in making Pink hats for the Arts Westchester  “Pink PussyHat Project

PATTERNS:  adult hats can be Knitted flat or Crocheted.

Ladies, bring your festive spirit along with your wrapped gift to our annual Holiday Luncheon, at Uno’s, 1 p.m, 12/8.

Free indoor parking is available 15+ feet past Uno’s entrance.

Also,  Kathy F. has reminded me of the Annual Bake Sale to raise money for Breast Cancer will be on Friday, 10/6, from 12-4 p.m. at the entrance of Barnes & Noble (on the main floor of City Center).

Ladies, on Friday, 9/29, 1-3 p.m. @ Panera. We’ll continue joining our blanket squares – bring all of your squares in & a needle for sewing!

 

One time Charity Project!

 

The Stitch & Bitch is joining the Welcome Blanket  Project making welcome blankets for refugees & immigrants. They’re accepting blankets until 11/5.

The goal is to stitch and assemble as many blankets as we can out of the 8×8″ squares. Each blanket will be 40″. The museum is offering free shipping Smart Museum of Art, in Chicago. The blankets are on display through December.

I’m calling on you to make exactly 8″x 8″ squares – use 4 ply Acrylic yarn (only). You may knit or crochet, using any pattern you like, any color.

We’ll have a “joining party” when we gather enough squares. Let’s do it, ladies!

 

Our Charities & a special message

The Stitch & Bitch of Westchester County is proud to participate, year-round, in several charity projects. Your participation allows us to donate to a number of causes, in our community.

Donated Acrylic yarn is often used for our charity projects. We look forward to and appreciate yarn donations from you, and the local community. All items should be made with Acrylic yarn, soft baby yarn, for hats.

You may use any pattern you like.

List of our Charity Projects:

 Preemie Hats & Blankets – benefiting the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. Hats preemie size, and blankets: 8″x11″ and 8.5″x14″. Susan W collects these.

Warm Hats – Newborn baby hats for White Plains Hospital. Newborn size for boys/girls. Lois collects these.

Our Lucille Project (in memory of our beloved member, Lucille Subbiando). – Hats, scarves, gloves, cowls go to a local family shelter (The Coachmen). Items for children and adult size men/women. Dahlia collects these.

Montrose VA Nursing Home Project – Lap robes, throws/ afghans/blankets, for our local Veterans home. Kathy F collects these.

As many of you know Sheila is at the Bristal. I was hoping to coordinate a visit this Friday however, she mentioned the best time to visit would be after 3 p.m. I know some of you are busy after 3… so, we will need to come up with another day.  We can brainstorm this Friday.

 Every patient/employee who visits the group gets to take home ther projects and needles/hooks… so they can always use donations of new ones.
